Description
This is a great bouldering area across from the smaller Tumbling Run boulders. There are countless problems on the boulders east of Woodrow Road. The guidebook I have (Rob Holzman's "Rock Climbing and Bouldering Pennsylvania") is a bit confusing, so I wanted to put up some pictures for others (and make sure I'm right about what I think is which boulder/problem).
Getting There
From the south: Head on Rt 30 to 233 North toward Pine Grove Furnace. Travel 10.7 miles on 233 to Woodrow Road on the left. Go 2 miles up Woodrow Road to the top of the hill. Park on the right. (Parking : N 40.0258 W 77.35536)
From Carlisle/Harrisburg: Head south on I-81 to the Newville/King's Gap exit (37). Turn left onto 233 South toward Pine Grove Furnace. At the T (Pine Grove Furnace State Park), turn right to continue on 233 south for about 2.5 miles to Woodrow Road. Go 2 miles up Woodrow Road to the top of the hill. Park on the right. (Parking : N 40.0258 W 77.35536)
From the parking lot:
Head East on a fire road past a forest service campground. (You can reserve this campground if you contact the Michaux Forest district office. ) The guidebook says to stay right at the fork, but you get a better look at the boulders if you go left on a trail for hikers, bikers, and climbers. You should be at the first boulder along the trail, Ironsides, in 5-10 minutes.
