Description
Pennsylvania adventure climbing at it's best. Literally dozens of short, scattered cliffs and a few small boulders here and there. Cliffs range from 20 foot runs of solid sandstone to 200 foot cutbanks with several different rock bands (Limestone, consolidated shale, sandstone, etc.). Approaches vary from 15 minute walks to day long epics. Lots of potential for an eager climber, but be prepared. This is the backcountry of SWPA, and there's no shortage of dangers, whether its copperheads, flash floods, or rednecks with large guns and larger trucks.
Getting There
From Route 51 southbound, turn left onto Independence St. Follow Independence through town, going straight at the circle, and bearing through its various curves following the circle. Cross the Yough on the Layton bridge, and stay with the road (its's technically Layton Rd at this point) through the hamlet of Layton and to the top of the hill. There are two parking areas that you can go to from this junction. To the left, you have the Banning Road parking area, and to the right is the Tower Road parking area. Further directions to each are in their respective sections.
