Description
Hog Rock is a point of interest along the Catoctin Mountain Park hiking trail. It features numerous boulders along the approach and in all styles and sizes.
Getting There
Park at the fourth parking area from the Visitors Center and follow the trail. You will pass one major boulder area before Hog Rock proper, about a half mile down the flat trail.
There are boulders and problems scattered down-slope from the immediate Hog Rock and overlook area. For many of the down-slope areas, it is easiest to simply bushwhack South before the trail cuts through the first rock formation. Following the immediate walls and boulders will lead to the base of Hog Rock overlook, while many other climbs will be found further East down the slope. There are also sizeable boulders and overhung faces on the trail South of the overlook, and some down-slope areas are best accessed from this portion of the trail as well.
