LTA or the Leavitt Training Area, is the primary climbing training area of the US Marine Corps; however it resides on Forest Service land and is therefore open to the general climbing public.
LTA consists of numerous sub-areas, which have traditional been used as:
1st Section – top roping, night top rope/retrievable rappel, lead climbing prac ap and eval.
2nd Section – raising/lowering systems, lead climbing prac ap and eval.
3rd Section – rappelling (including hasty in chute between upper 2nd & 3rd), lead climbing prac ap
Levitation – Direct Aid, Military Aid.
Medivac Rock – A-Frame, raising/lowering systems (trees, picket holdfast, bolts, etc. on top).
Right side LTA – Cliff assault, fixed ropes.
Old Fixed Rope – lead climbing, fixed ropes.
Chapman’s Bowl – lead climbing.
Scruff’s Hollar – lead climbing.

Getting There Suggest change

Park on either side of highway 108 near lat/long 38.3309109, -119.5532083. There are obvious but unsigned dirt parking lots. If these are full there is a day-use lot east along 108. Approach north of 108 scrambling up loose scree to the base of the short cliffs.
