Description Suggest change

A remote feeling bouldering area that overlooks the beautiful boundary where sandstone meets limestone, and with Turtlehead Peak wholly visible to the north. The problems climb features in and around an interesting cave, formed by a jumble of big blocks. The rock is mainly excellent.

Getting There Suggest change

20 minute approach time. Walk the Turtlehead Peak Trail to the Twinkie / Trophy turn-off area. Continue west up the main wash, past the Twinkie for 100 yards. Leave the wash at a trail sign, and follow the rising trail to the northwest (right), as continuing to Turtlehead Peak. After 25 yards (near the end of the steeps), take a faint trail that splits right and heads downhill. After 15 yards and arriving at a small wash filled with manzanita, take a trail to the right (east) and skirt left around the toe of white sandstone. Follow slabs to the east and into a meadow with juniper trees. Weave eastward through the meadow for 100 yards. This will leave you standing at the base of The Salt Factory (use beta photo from that page on MP). Continue up the scree slope on the right, or the slabs on the left, for another 50 yards (5 min.). Aim for the cave of stacked boulders.
