Description Suggest change

Black Planets is mainly a bouldering area just a few miles south of Fossil Falls - there are a few cracks that may be toproped. The boulders that tumbled from the uplifted volcanic ridge are black basalt, and boast a wide variety of features from technical crimpy highballs, to dynamic overhangs. Some routes are brutal on the skin while others may be very forgiving. There isn't a whole lot to offer here, but locals have learned to appreciate the climbing. Since this is a mostly secluded area, new climbers often assume that there are many first ascents to be put up, but all the good lines have seen multiple repeats over the last few decades. This isn't the best spot in the Sierra Eastside, but it is worth a stop if you are passing through toward Bishop.

Getting There Suggest change

Head North via the 395. After passing Pearsonville, keep driving North for roughly 5 minutes. There will be a dirt road that is easy to miss on the right. Turn here, and take this dirt road North until you get to a small dirt parking lot.
