Devil's Gate

Colorado > S Platte > Devil's Head > Devil's Gate Sector
Warning Access Issue: Road and Raptor Closures DetailsDrop down

Description

By far the most impressive cliff and namesake, Devil's Gate is an inspiring face of red granite and patinas. Slightly overhung and continuous, most of the routes offer an excellent pump with few chances to shake out. Getting sun from mid afternoon to late afternoon, it's possible to chase sun or shade for most of the day, perhaps with taking a slight intermission across the Gate or down the valley to some of the east-facing slabs.

Getting There

It is impossible to miss, it is right off of the main Devil's Gate Sector Trail. Look for the cliff face that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

[Hide Comment] Since someone finally put this on MP, shouldn't you give directions on how to get there? I've been there several times, and the directions provided confuse me. Crag's pretty old now, so you might as well tell the hordes how to get there. Jun 1, 2015

[Hide Comment] The Rakkup digital guide has a great gps navigation feature, works well, and the developing team gets a kickback for all there hard work. Just trying to give credit where credit is due. Maybe it's not my place to decide. You can always leave directions in the comment section if you desire. Jun 1, 2015

[Hide Comment] @^^^^ Gneiss.

I own the Rakkup app and Tod's book, and I certainly appreciate his and other's hard work at DH. That said, posting an area without directions and then telling someone to go buy an app to find their way is kind of lame.

...on the other hand, the selfish side of my brain is glad you didn't post directions, because that means less people. Bad brain. Bad.

Also, to be clear Gneiss, I do appreciate you posting the routes up. Jun 1, 2015

[Hide Comment] Perhaps you're right. If someone wants to write up directions, I will post them on the Devil's Gate sector listing. Send me a PM. Jun 2, 2015

[Hide Comment] Yep, that's one of the reasons I never put it up on MP. Jun 4, 2015

[Hide Comment] Someone should post directions or remove this post. As it stands, this is just an advertisement for Rakup and doesn't belong here. Jul 2, 2016

[Hide Comment] I'll update the page.... I feel like the trail is packed down enough so people won't get lost without some navigation. Jul 3, 2016

[Hide Comment] Wow this crag is absolutely stacked, thanks to equippers of this bad boy!

This climbs like Red Wall for a bit to build pump then switches to a Crimpfest style higher, usually after busting a fun roof or two. The approach trail is stupid easy to follow but pretty continuous. Took us 25/30min up and just 10 min running down in the hail. Jul 28, 2018
