Description Suggest change

Just past the serene cottonwood camp ground in McCain valley lies the cottonwood giants bouldering area.

The rock quality here is much like the rest of McCain valley or areas with similar rock such as Joshua Tree. Rock quality ranges from beautifully solid to horrendously chossy, often even on different sides of the same boulder. Many of the problems in this area have seen only a handful or a single ascent and have not yet "cleaned up".

Much of the area was climbed and explored in the recent past, but there's still plenty of gems to be found simply by viewing a boulder pile from a different angle and spying a beautiful crack running up the face that wasn't obvious from another vantage point. Further exploration north west has also yielded some nice problems and potential projects...

Getting There Suggest change

Continue straight through on the main McCain Valley road (MV050) all way to the cottonwood camp ground 4 way intersection with the campground sign. From there, go straight ahead 0.8 miles to a turnout on the right. Park there, and hike over the hill to the east, a valley full of potential awaits.
