Description
Great ice climbing north of Anchorage. From long easy solos, to harder test pieces, this is a good place to spend a day or longer. Temps are often colder here than in other places. Expect cold temps in the canyon as well as bitter wind.
Getting There
Caribou Creek is two hours north from Anchorage on the Glenn Highway. After the Mat glacier, the road drops into the caribou drainage. Cross the Caribou Creek bridge, park along the road. Hike down to the river on the north side of the road until one can gain access to the creek. Access to most of these climbs is limited until the river freezes. Skis, snowshoes or a snowmachine are helpful.
