Description
Several large granite erratics at the foot of the Inyo Mountains. This area is usually warm even in winter, a good place to go on a cold cloudy day or to escape the maddening crowds at the Milks or Happy Boulders.
Getting There
Drive south on 395 from Big Pine. Take a left on Aberdeen Station Road. Follow this across the bridge over the Owens River, and make a right at a T intersection with a major dirt road right at the foot of the Inyos. Follow this road south for several miles until it starts to curve up and left into a valley coming down from the mountains. Here keep left at a fork and continue up into the valley. After another mile or so there will be a major canyon on the left with some interesting looking rock formations. There is a small dirt road on the right. Park here for the main zone, the boulders are just over the moraine to the south. For the White Rhino area, continue up the valley until the road deteriorates to impassable, and hike around a boulder strewn hill to the south, then east following the drainage. The boulders are right in the bottom of the canyon.
