Description
Three Sheets Boulder, which overlooks the popular Windy Point pull-out are on Catalina Highway, is composed of solid granite and gneiss rock. The north-facing portion of the boulder is slightly over-hung with a solid drop area. Full-day shade makes this an awesome summer-time climbing spot (which in Arizona, makes up most of the year). The top of the boulder boasts one of the best views of Tucson and the surrounding Catalina Mountains. Sadly, this boulder doesn't see as much traffic as it deserves. It's short approach and shaded climbing surface make it a great first-time bouldering spot and holds a lot of promise for future development.
Getting There
Park at the pull-out opposing the Geology trailhead, which is just past the Windy Point pull-out area. Hike west uphill for about 10 min until you see the boulder on your right-hand side (hard to miss, seeing that it's by itself and well exposed to the appraoch). hike the last bit uphill to the boulder and you're there. Watch out for sharp vegetation. Approx. 15 min. for the approach.
