Description
Horrible choss fest of the classic cascadian choss, this is actually a form of gneiss that is fairly crumbly. However, spending a season with a lack of climbing partner and a work schedule not very conducive to long alpine trips I found some boulders around the area that I consider gems. Nice granite, great fall zones, and can a very strong variety of grades.
Getting There
Stehekin can only be reached by foot (hiking from downlake, Bridge Creek from Rainy Pass, or from Cascade Pass), plane, or boat (from Chelan). There is no access via road (automobiles). This is what makes this area remote and special, no cell reception, small population, and at the gateway to one of the oldest mountain passes (Cascade Pass).
