Description

The Shamu area is one of Gretna’s largest areas. Although not as nicely laid out as other areas, there are lots of great problems hidden in its nooks and crannies including the classics: Talking to Myself (V1), Decepticon (V3), Help Meat (V4), Shamu (V6), and Heaven (V8). Some of the problems are quite tall so bring a couple of pads and lots of power. Enjoy!

Getting There

Take the trail beside the nature center into the forest. At first three-way trail junction go Right. At second three-way junction go Left (uphill) and watch for an obvious access trail on right just behind a large two-trunked Tuliptree. Follow access trail into forest.

Pass the large 45 Boulder (obvious on trail left), and look for access trail immediately on left. Follow the cairns uphill into the Shamu area.

An alternative (and longer) approach is to enter from the white blaze trail via the Smiley’ Area access trail. Follow the access trail past Smiley Boulder. Continue past Paula and Multiple Personalities, uphill, eventually you'll encounter a T-junction. Right is the Bulge Area, Left is the Shamu Area.

*Note* this area is frequently overgrown in the summer and fall. Keep an eye out for trail junctions, they may be difficult to spot.
