Access Issue: Permit Required Details

This is a St. Paul park and they require that you obtain an annual ice climbing permit. The permit requires a signed waiver and a fee. stpaul.gov/index.asp?NID=1402

There has been a dialogue with the city about this requirement and many climbers do not agree with them charging a fee. For more information on this there have been several discussions on MN forums.

Description

This is the area with the most ice. The whole half circle gets covered with ice. There is a stream and a waterfall at the right side of the half circle that will freeze enough to climb when it's super cold; it can have some pretty cool ice formations.

Getting There

Follow the trail from the parking areas and take a left up the big hill where the trail then turns right. Follow the main trail until you see the big half circle of ice on your left. ~15 minute approach.
