Description
*Don’t climb if it has rained in the last couple days*
Graffiti-covered sandstone bluff at a wayside that sees very little attention because it is twenty minutes from Necedah (Petenwell Bluff).
Despite what its detractors say, Shiprock has been developed with a good amount of lines. There’s plenty of sport and trad lines for someone to enjoy the day here and the lines are surprisingly long for Wisconsin. You can use a 40 m rope here but 60 is recommended and can even do 40m multi pitch on a section of the lines.
This area is newly developed so rock is going to still be shedding. Be mindful when you pull on rocks, developers tried to clean as much as they can but Wisconsin winters and classic soft sandstone will weaken some things that are used/grabbed. Also park your vehicle mindfully and help contribute to the local area by cleaning up trash and leaving a positive influence on the area. Hikers will be interested in what you are doing but be mindful of their safety and make sure they aren’t in rockfall.
