Description
Lone Mountain is a large, rocky hill surround by city on all sides. There is a large park at the northeast foot of the mountain, as well as a large dirt track that circles the perimeter. The area is popular with local hikers and joggers.
On the east side of the mountain, there are some steep limestone cliffs that have been developed for sport climbing. The rock is generally lower grade limestone; however, the well-trafficked lines have cleaned up to be quite solid and enjoyable. Urban crag in particular is extremely convenient and boasts a few fun routes ranging in grade up to 5.12-. Suburban crag is generally less trafficked, likely due to the longer approach. There is a cave midway up the Suburban Crag that contains the hardest routes on the mountain (up to 13+).
In addition to containing some of the lowest elevation climbing in the area, the cliffs are generally sheltered and receive a good amount of sun, making Lone Mountain a very convenient option for the coldest days, especially when Red Rock has been rained out.
Getting There
Follow the trail up to a small cave continue around to another large cave like recess. This is Urban Crag.
Cheap Beer Crag is up another 200'.
