Starting on Fry Koegel Trail is the best way to get to The Hanging Gardens, Y-Crack, The Lighthouse Area and Brain Stem Rock, as well as some other climbs along the trail. Park on the little pullout on the western side of Hwy 67, right at the end of the bend in the road with the entrance to Archie Moore Rd when coming from the east (Ramona).
For the Lecture Hall area, hiking in from the top is recommended over taking Fry Koegel Trail, since the lower approach tends to be overgrown with poison oak.
If you want to change it up a bit, Fry Koegel Trail is also a surprisingly pleasant and more shaded way to get to the summit -- but it is a good amount longer than taking the road.
