Some routefinding on the approach, then lots if 3rd or 4th class scrambling up the North gully, and two short 5th class sequences much harder than the rest to make it SE along the ridge to reach the summit of Red Cap.
Start from Sandstone Quarry parking on the Loop road, at first N, next curve NE and E on the obvious Calico/Tank Pass trail. Turn Left NE off the trail around (N36.1667 W115.4481) and find a way up NE about .2 mile (around the NW side of the Red Cap peak). Reach a hiking trail and go a short ways right (E) on that. At about (N36.1685 W115.4441) leave that trail and get into the white-ish rock of the North gully.
