Re-sling my "CAMRAD" SLCDs

I have a set of old rigid SLCDs, Friend knock-offs, made in Korea, brand is "Camrad". They have sewn sling loops of ~1/2 wide webbing, the ends overlapped about 2" and sewn together with 5 bar-tacks.

1. Any "Old Timers" out there ever hear of "Camrads", use them, have any comments?

2. Do any shops exist in the Fort Collins area that can test these for me? Is it even possible to meaningfully test them, without harming them?

3. Is there a shop near Fort Collins that will re-sling these for me? I would like to reproduce these sewn slings, not just knot together replacements.

They look great. Cams show hardly any wear. The climber who gave them to me is a trusted friend and he says they never took a hard fall. No signs of abuse. They look too good to throw away and I don't want to lay out big bucks for a new set of SLCDs if I don't have to. I gotta know if these are safe.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Richard

Most places I've contacted will only replace the slings on their own brand of cams, but try Forest: forestsafetyproducts.com/ca…
Another possibility might be Yates, or Trango is always very helpful and might be able to point you in the right direction.

On the cams themselves, there is no way to know how good they are. I had a bad experience years ago with a Korean-made knock-off TCU, but that is probably no real indication whether your cams are any good. The real issue to me is that cable stemmed cams are such a huge improvement over the rigid (except maybe in the largest sizes) that it is totally worth springing for something updated (IMHO.) My old rack of rigid Friends hasn't left the box under my bed in ten years (though that makes me sound like a bit of a serial killer!)

If you decide to ditch them consider a donation to Neptune's museum.

I would send them to Fish Products for new slings they do GREAT work. I've had quite a few done by them. fishproducts.com/

Another one for YATES. They just did 8 of my cams. FAST and GREAT job.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
