Description Suggest change

This was once a boulder in a nice forest near the saddle between West Tiger 2 and 1. It rested on a moderate slope 100 feet above and out of sight of the Tiger Mtn Trail. Every Autumn lots of chanterelles would grow out of the mossy soil in the area around this boulder to feed the local animals and an occasional forager. In 2021 a logging operation clear cut the West Tiger summits. The mycelium died and the animals moved on. The Tiger Mtn Trail was rerouted 100' higher across the logged slope to conveniently go by the boulder. Today it is exposed to the sun and wind. It makes for a great break spot when hiking the TMT and while you're there might as well do a few fun climbing moves. There is an easy 6 foot downclimb/walk off the back.

Getting There Suggest change

The best approach is to boycott all trailheads that require a Discover Pass. Access to Washington's public lands should be open to all not just those who can afford to pay this regressive tax aimed at restricting access to citizens with lower income. Instead use East Sunset Way Trailhead, Issaquah Community Center, or Second Avenue Trailhead. All are city owned and no fee required. Follow Rainier Trail to High School Trail to Section Line Trail to the summit of West Tiger 3. Descend into the saddle towards West Tiger 2 then up to the Tiger Mtn Trail. Take a right and go about .4 mile and the boulder will be on your left at the junction with the TMT Connector Trail. Approach is 3.5 miles and 2500' gain from the Second Avenue Trailhead. Or just hike from home if living in Issaquah.
