Description
Boulder Town, aka Boulder City, is a collection of large boulders near String Lake. They're located in a beautiful, forested setting and offer a range of bouldering problems and topropes. The boulders are part of an old glacial moraine and are composed of the same rock found in the Tetons.
There are about 5-6 boulders worth climbing and they're all located in basically the same area, except for the Chounaird Boulder, 250 m NNE. The landings are a little sketchy, so a pad is recommended. The largest boulders all have bolts available on top for easy toproping.
I'm not into highball bouldering but still managed to find plenty of cool problems - most starting with sit starts. Those willing to get high off the ground will find even more opportunity.
Don't come expecting world class bouldering, and instead come looking for a nice time in a beautiful setting. There are problems available for all skill levels, and with a little imagination everyone can have a great time.
In addition to a pad, be sure to bring bug spray - the mosquitoes can be vicious!
Getting There
No boulders are visible from this turnout as they're well hidden in the trees. Walk West on the developed trail through the sage brush. Continue on this trail for about 10 minutes into the forest until a well developed trail branches off to the right and up a little hill. Take this trail and walk another 5 minutes to the boulders.
