Cobble Cave

New Mexico > El Rito > Little River Wall
Warning Access Issue: Seasonal Raptor Nesting Warning DetailsDrop down

Description

The obvious black cave of dubious rock quality. Initially, we only ventured into the cave with one, short route. With lots of effort and work the cave has yielded the highest concentration of hard routes in the El Rito area. The cave has a 50' deep tunnel in the back from old mining activity.

** All routes are equipped with steel lowering hardware. Please avoid toproping through the lowering hardware as both gates of the hooks are oriented facing forward and don't ensure sufficient protection for toproping. Instead, build your own anchor with personal gear and have only the last person lower off the fixed lowering hardware.

Getting There

The cave is on the left side of the Main Wall.

[Hide Comment] Awesome! Glad to see that people are bolting this cave, even though it destroyed my goal of doing all the routes at this crag! New goal: do all routes here except the two 13s and one 14!! Jul 30, 2015

[Hide Comment] It looks like there are two routes between Cobbletopia and Cobble Killer. Anybody have any info on these? Have they been freed, are they red tagged, are they fun/solid rock? I don't want to step on any toes by trying them. Nov 3, 2019
