BETA PHOTO: Prospect Mountain Bouldering Zones.

In a pleasant and completely flat clearing lies the Equalizer, just next to the trail on the right. Equalizer is part of the Prospect Mountain Trifecta, along with Little Bear and Moai. It starts low and right on the bloc and trends left through some sharp crimps. A few tough slopers and a big huck to a jug comprise the crux. Quality route!

A few hundred feet back down the trail are a few more boulders awaiting development.

Getting There

Head out of town on CO Highway 7, and turn right on Peak View Drive at a big church. Head past Curry Drive (the road that leads to the Thumb/Needle parking area), and park at a teal water treatment plant.

Locate a trail just behind the building that leads uphill. Follow it for about 10 minutes from the parking area, up a series of steep switchbacks past the turnoff to the Cracked Boulder. Once the trail flattens out, you'll see Equalizer on your right, 5 feet off the trail.

If you follow this trail all the way, you will wind up on the very top of Prospect Mountain.

The Equalizer begins with a sit start just to the right of the overhang. Move left with feet below the overhang and hands above it, hang on to an awful pair of slopers on the boulder's corner, make a massive move left, and finish up the tall prow....[more]   Browse More Classics in Colorado
