You've heard of the Super 8 knot, but how about the Super Overhand

So as I was sitting in traffic this morning on the way to work, I was fiddling with a piece of cord tying different knots. As I was trying to tie a Super 8 I realized I didn't have enough rope to make it work so I improvised and tied a "Super Overhand."

I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of this so I was wondering if anyone has any epxerience with it. Without getting a chance to test it, it seems like a benign alternative when there's just not quite enough rope in the system for a Super 8.

For those of you that have no idea what a Super 8 is, check out the link below.

You might want to try the Bowline on a bight, it's almost what you're tying. You tie an overhand on a bight then flip the bight around the not and pull the doubled loops out. It's recommended in Long's second anchors book.

The overhand is a good knot as is the boline. The one thing to remember is that the "tighter" the bight on the rope the less strenghth you get. When tying the super 8 there is less bight as it aproximated at 80% of your initial rope strengh. Bolines and overhands, since they have "tighter" bights only give you about 65% rope strength. While both % give you plenty of rope strength you should always use the knot with the least bight.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
