Description

Two short and steep blocks smashed together to form a cool cave-like tunnel. Both boulders offer very short, low problems. Some slopey, some crimpy, all fun.

Getting There

New Trail! Thanks to the hard work, dedication and passion from the volunteers of the GHSP Bouldering & Stewardship Weekend (2017) and the Central Appalachia Climbers Coalition we now have a nice climber access trail into the awesome Luminary Bouldering Area.

The easiest way to the Luminary Area is to walk down the back side of the Listening Rock Trail (not the start of the trail with the wooden overlook, but the trail head that is normally the exit of the loop trail which is at the corner of the lower parking lot). Walk down the trail and pass the trail’s end boulder and the Wildwood Bouldering Trail.

The trail into the Luminary Area when walking in from the LRT in this direction is at the start, just before the first boulder at the Autumn Boulders. There is a large boulder directly beside the trail at the Autumn Boulders (trailside) and the start of the Luminary access trail is just before it leading downhill. Walk down the stone steps and follow the trail, the first boulder you will come to is Equinox.

On the Luminary Boulder facing end of the Wolf Blocks. This is on the right side of the end of the boulder, to the right of Riding Hood.Sit start on the low prominent sloper. The opening move is the crux. Figure out how to move up from the sloper to gain the tiny knob. Hit another knob, bring up feet, and then continue through fun, easier slopey holds and knobs to walk up the rest....[more]   Browse More Classics in Virginia
