A quiet and humble local bouldering area near Princeton University. With some imagination (and a lot of desperation), there is much fun to be had here.

Getting There

From Princeton University, drive down Witherspoon street well past the downtown, and take a left on Cherry Hill Rd. Continue uphill and take a left on Stuart Rd. Park at the intersection of Stuart and Bouvant Dr.

The entrance to the woods is a little-marked trail opposite Bouvant. GPS Coordinates: (40.371293, -74.676661). Here's the Google Street View:

The best way to find the boulders is to just walk straight into the woods until you see the Wave boulder or something else you recognize. Or you can attempt to follow a vague trail by sticking to the slightly-barer talus.

Here is a good map showing trails:

Another good parking spot is on Cherry Hills Road past Foulet Dr.

Sunshine on my Face (aka The Wave sit-start) V5 6C  New Jersey : Witherspoon Woods Boulders
Sit start with your right hand on a bad sloper and left hand on a vaguely ball-like sloper. There are several options for getting to the pinch, some involving a barely-there sloper intermediate, and some involving a powerful and extended gaston. Once you wrap the jug with your right hand, it's pretty much in the bag (assuming you can climb The Wave stand). The ideal conditions for an ascent of this sloper testpiece are a crisp 80-degree day in June, with full humidity, and nursing a hangover fr...[more]   Browse More Classics in New Jersey
