Hi,

Where is this in Joshua Tree? If you know, can we set up a top rope without leading the front? Might there be bolts on the top?

thanks

That's the Wave Boulder, near the Barker Dam parking lot. It's now off limits to climbing as part of an area where petroglyphs are located.

Did they finally close this? Last I heard, everything at Indian Wave was closed except for this boulder, which makes no sense because there are pictos within 50ft,and on this very stone.

thanks.

Too bad it's blocked off.

Is there anything else similar to that in JT? Looked like a good spot to do some routes with the kids.

Trash Can Rock at Quail Springs is a great place for the kiddies.

We went out there this weekend and looked at the Wave Boulder. On the east side is sign that shows that climbing is off limits, however, just to the left and underneath the north side is a sign that just says no climbing on the north side of the boulder.

I was a bit confused. Clearly, they don't want you on the north face, but I wasn't sure about the south side. I decided not to ascend the south face, and left for something else, but I would have liked to have tried it.

Also, this thread was very helpful.

Cheers.

See here for an example of how well this strategy can work!

!!!! There are plenty of places to climb at Josh that don't have possible access issues.

You might look at Atlantis wall. I think there a couple of routes where you can set a TR pretty easily by slinging some blocks and extending.

Might try this thing also...haven't used it myself but looks pretty handy, and the price is right!
