The West Walls consist of several areas that make up the western one-third of Cooks Wall climbing. These smaller individual walls are scattered down the hillside, one after the other across a broken up cliff line, so it is fairly easy to identify which is which. The West Walls offer the tamest and more popular climbing experience at Cooks. The setting is very pleasant and a majority of the routes have little to no gear but a rack is still useful as there are many good lines that need supplemental pieces.

Getting There Suggest change

Hike the Cooks Wall trail, past House Rock and across the top of Cooks Wall (Above the Emla Area if you're using the GPS feature in Mountain Project). Continue along the trail for another 5-6 minutes which through the woods and away from the cliff line. Turn left off the trail onto a faint trail at the first boulder on your left (see picture). If you get to the first grassy meadow, you have gone 30-40' too far and if you have not passed the approach gulley that leads to the Devil's Chimney you have not gone far enough. Follow a faint trail down a steep hill while keeping the rocky ridge paralleling your right side. Near the base of the hill, the trail will continue right until you arrive at the first wall, which is the Breakfast Wall.

For a much easier approach than sliding down the gully to routes, turn left and go downhill, trending right along the cliffline at this point in the trail to access Lower Wall and points west. I marked the turn with climbing tape, but who knows how long it'll stay up. There's a tiny bit of bushwhacking, but it's the easiest access I've found.<br> <br> It's in a big meadow, not quite 2 miles down the trail.
