The Mammoth Crest as seen from the Lower Talus Are...

Description

This bouldering venue has a distinctly Alpine flavor.

The area has a large number of problems on good quality rock.

Getting There

From the town of Mammoth Lakes follow Main Street, and continue straight at the traffic lights onto Lake Mary Road. Follow this until a left turn can be made towards Coldwater Campground. After 1 mile turn left into the campground and follow the campground up the hill to the Emerald Lake trailhead.

Follow the trail towards Emerald Lake, after about 1/2 mile there is a clearly signposted trail right towards TJ Lake and Lake Barrett. Take this trail, and after about 5 minutes head left (South West) up the slope to a plateau and the boulder field.

Black Face Direct V7 7A+  CA : Sierra Eastside : ... : Black Face Boulder
Climb Black Face straight through the face, without using the lower left wall or the right arete. Harder than the original, but climbs beautifully through the fingerlock in the center of the face. Any info on a FA would be appreciated. I can't be the first one to have thought of this......[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
