Wall of Denial Rock Climbing
The Red River in the Upper Gorge.
Wall of Denial is a great place to go to escape the crowds. Except when the crowds show up trying to avoid you.
It's a long walk but well worth it. The routes are good and varied. The setting is aesthetic and remote.
Park at the concrete bridge parking area. Hike up the Douglas Trail as if going to Eagle's Nest. The trail will bend right (south) with the river past Eagle's Nest. After a few more minutes you will cross a shallow, but narrow gully. Immediately after crossing look for a trail heading into the rhododendron on the left. After making the split look for another split and follow th eleft trail up the hill toward the cliffline. Once at the main cliff walk around the corner to the right. The wall faces south.

There is a distinct crux midway up the route. But it isn't terribly harder than the climbing before or after.Fancy footwork will serve you well as you stem and edge your way up this route. This was my first 5.9 lead and it is a good route to break into the grade. Just make sure you get good gear before moving past the roof....[more] Browse More Classics in Kentucky
