The Sas Rigais is the highest summit of the Geisler Group, and is a major mountain summit of the Dolomites. It's also high enough to retain significant snow into early Summer, and is very Alpine in character. There is a very popular via Ferrata or Klettersteig route to the summit in addition to a route on the East Ridge. The prospective climber should be prepared with weather gear, since early Autumn snows are possible here
This is an easy Via Ferrata which accesses the SW side of the mountain. There is an established path which leads to the fixed ropes and stanchioned portion of the climb.
Allow 3-4 hours for the ascent, and a similar time for the descent . This is a long day undertaking. This mountain and route is very popular to summit, since the panorama includes views of the Langkofel and Sella Groups as well as the Marmolada!
Established paths allow access from both the Regensburger Hut and Col Raiser Hut.
There is a major trail junction where paths from Regensburger and Col Raiser Huts meet. The continuing path towards the scree gully on the SW side of the mountain is followed to beginning of protected climbing.
Normal Via Ferrata protection available; carry a harness, carabiners, slings, and helmet. A short rope is also a good to have item.
