Hi,

I noticed on that all the roads to camping and climbing in Vedauwoo are closed. The paid campground also appears to be closed but their site just might not be updated yet. Does anyone know if people are still climbing and/or camping at Vedauwoo? Seems like a long closure.

Was up there yesterday and the dirt road that provides access to the Nautilus and the free camping are open. The pay camping road and sites are closed until Memorial Day weekend I believe. If you park at the Nautilus lot you can hike through the pay camping or use the road, not sure if there is a day fee though, hope this helps. Andrew S.

Check this:

"Per Henry Lester: all the dirt roads into the climbing and camping areas are closed to motorized vehicles until July 2015 because of resource degradation."

Just read this while reading about Edward's Crack up at the 'Woo. Maybe this is whats going on?

Thanks for the info Chris. I guess parking at the Nautilus lot and hiking to all other areas seems to be the best option until the pay camping opens. Kinda sucks that they're shutting it down for so long. We saw the camp host setting up shop at the lower pay camping sights so they may be opening it up soon. Andrew S.

Went there 3 weeks ago or so, and experienced the same thing. It felt like we were basically the only ones there climbing, but had to hike everything. We heard from some other people that the roads were closed because of 4 wheelers tearing it up off road. We saw evidence of it. Also when leaving, we saw a guy stuck in the stream in a stock SUV in super soft conditions. All these jackasses should have known better. I had lifted Jeeps for years and never tore shit up unless I was at an off-road PARK cause I wasn't a douche to the environment other than burning fossil fuels. So basically these mfers screwed us all and the land. Norse Force

For clarification, besides the main paved lot and camp grounds, does this mean all dirt roads past the Nautilus parking lot are also closed (e.g. 700 series roads?)? Sagar Gondalia

And have probably been doing it since before Scarpelli started climbing.

There was a time that I remember, and I'm not terribly old, that you could drive nearly to the base of Reynolds Hill. Mudders got there and it's easier to put a closed sign up than to fix the road.

It's happened elsewhere too. People have been tearing that place apart as long as it existed. Eventually, everything off the main dirt road will be closed.

Quoted from the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest website:

"All Forest Roads in the Pole Mountain Unit are temporarily closed by Emergency Special Order due to excessive resource damage. The week of May 5, the following Forest roads were reopened: 700 (Vedauwoo Glen), 705 (Blair-Wallis), and 707 (Headquarters). Most spurs off of these roads are open. Forest roads north of Wyoming Hwy 210 (Happy Jack Highway) remain closed and will be evaluated weekly."

Hey all,

Does anyone know if camping is allowed on the portion of the 700 Road that was reopened?

Recently spent a week in the Voo and got some beta from some locals. All of the non-major 700 roads (700S, for example) were closed because off-road era were driving them hard during the mud season. They're now closed to prevent further degradation. That being said, there is still TONS of free camping to be had on all of the main 700 roads. It only affects the climbing by making some of the approaches a bit longer (for instance to upper Blair). Chris Dickson
