Updating the NRG section

I was curious as to the preferred method of updating sections/routes for the NRG. Should I just email all of the updates needed to an admin, post them on here, or try to start a coup to overthrow current admins? :)

Some of it deals with updating routes, sorting areas, getting rid of duplicates, etc.

On an un/related note; is there anywhere online that has any info regarding all the new lines at the Meadow (3rd Buttress), or do we just have to wait for the new guidebook?

Go with a coup. That should be much more fun. Seriously, I would first contact the current admins and work with them. If you are doing a good job, they would probably put in a good word for you and you might be asked to help as an admin. If it is difficult to work with a current admin, maybe try contacting a site owner and attempt a coup ;)

You may notice that some administrators cover a huge area of multiple states. It may be because they came in early and there was nobody else to do it. I would guess that many would be happy to have some help by knowledgeable people who are organised and know how to write well. I know I wouldn't mind if somebody wanted to come in as a RI admin. I volunteered because there was none and I live here and and know some of the history, but now that I have added areas that I knew about and reorganized some, my real interest is in NH. It would be totally cool with me if somebody knowledgeable and active in the area wanted to be a co-admin. It is kind of tough to find boulderers who write more than text speech though.

I appreciate the help man. I will try to compile a list of EVERYTHING I can and send it off. Thanks!

Hehe. I did that over two months ago for the NRG; nothing came of it. I probably was not doing a good job.

Yeah I know this is my attempt at getting them to follow through on the past conversations about the topic. Once I compile everything then hopefully they will take notice.

I have messaged the three admins for the section, none of which live here or seem to be here very often, and asked them if they were willing to make all of the changes needed provided I give them a very long and specific list of those changes. Haven't heard back yet. I will start thumping the beast next week if I haven't heard anything back. Stay tuned....

Kristine Hoffman is not really a local area admin, so don't expect her to get back to you. She was given the title so she would have access to help with GPS coordinates site wide.

Motion seconded. Why is this so hard to make happen? We've now seen two knowledgeable and motivated users come forward (who actually live in Fayetteville!) to try to get the NRG section up to date. To whomever it is that is dragging their feet on this: how exactly do you feel you are serving the MP community by your inaction? I don't fully understand how admin status is granted or transferred, but it seems like the system may be in need of review. It should be a fluid process that gives power to the people who have the time, gumption, and knowledge of an area _for the amount of time that they possess those qualities_. When they move, become less active, or lose interest (which will happen to everyone at some point), they should be more than happy (and able)to pass the mantle. It's in everyone's best interests.

I brought this back to the attention of the site owners just in case they didn't see this themselves. I think they would like to find someone who is knowledgeable, is active, writes well and isn't known to be a board troll (keep that in mind folks if you hope to be an admin and be able to help with the site more.)

I haven't been paying a lot of attention the last few weeks, but I haven't noticed the owners being on much the last week or so. They may be on a climbing trip after all the flurry of activity they have been doing lately, so hold your horses if they don't get right on it.

I'd take a knowledgeable troll over a guy who lives in NH and hasn't been on the site in weeks, and another guy who is, admittedly, killing it with site contributions, though they happen to all be from Europe. Because he LIVES IN GERMANY.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread, Chris.

Site landlords, I'd still be happy to work with Chris to give the NRG section its much needed overhaul. I honestly am not sure why there has been so much ignoring or foot-dragging on this issue since early summer.

Dear mother of god I love this community. Jake I owe you a drink next time you are in town. Seriously.

On another note Kristine replied almost immediately and so did Shawn. They both agreed to make the needed changes. So while I start compiling those changes area by area I will also be going to those areas to record the gps coordinates of them and then update the site with that info.

I own a house in fayetteville and am also a software architect. I say that to say this. Data should be kept up to date if it's used as much as this site is, otherwise someone else will come along and create another site and try to do it there. I want to help and will be more than happy to do whatever is needed to be an admin. I don't care about the pro deals (I already get them), I don't care about the words I have written in forums and I don't care about climbing high numbers. All I care about is the community and the data that serves it.

So until I can make the changes myself I will serve the admins with the data that is needed to keep mountain project what is what set out to be. Badass.

I can help make the changes since it looks like no one else is interested. I'm pretty busy most of the time, though, so it might take a few weeks.

I can't make someone an Admin, but I can re-assign areas and routes to people capable of making the needed corrections. Let me know where you would like to start...

That would be awesome. Is there any way to re-assign the NRG area to myself and camhead? Or is that asking way too much?

Alas, I sure hope the NRG section sees some updates. Let me assure you, Chris and Camhead are the men for the job. They are both smart, detail oriented, and are both imports to the WV, which is an important trait if you know the area. Give them the keys and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Jake, I updated the info with that link.

Looks like no one really gives a shit about the data issues except for the people that actually use the data and a few admins of other areas that are helping me out the best they can. Typical.

I'm generally too busy to even keep up w/ new additions to the Thailand and NC sections, but if there is anything I can do to help I would like to.

I think it's stupid not to have locals as admins. I do Thailand because I still keep in touch with people there and the same goes for NC, but seeing as I live in England now, if someone else came along and asked to take one of those sections over, I'd probably give it some thought. Especially if they LIVED IN THE AREA like a few of our MPers who live in Fayetteville!

Yeah man I agree. It's a shame that people don't care about this stuff.

Chris is now an Admin for NRG. I've been sidetracked and neglected this topic, but better late than never. Thanks to Chris (and everyone) that helps build MP!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
