Description

This is a fairly decent short crack that offers very good introduction to leading trad at an easy level. The rock quality is fair and the crack takes pro just about anywhere. I found that the crack can be well protected by medium to large hexes or cams. There is also a large tree at the top of the climb that can be slung for top rope.

Getting There

To get to the route follow the road Up from the Settlers Boulder on M Hill in Rapid City. The climb will come into view in about 1 minute after passing the Settlers Boulder and will be on the right.

Climb the lower section next to the small roof/cave to gain the upper portion. Pump through a steep overhang on jugs and then top it out for a nice little challenge. This route probably has a different name, but this will be its temporary one....[more]   Browse More Classics in South Dakota

There is seemed to be other routes to the right of this route. I have bolted chains right about 10-20'.

This is a sweet area of unique sandstone right in town. The "Unamed 5.4" title for the area is a bit deceiving because there are multiple TR routes up there. The area should be renamed something a little more creative and descriptive.
