Since the loops are not closed / continuous doesn't count as a mountaineers does it? Just curious if it has an official name. Obviously its one everyone uses haha I'm just not sure I've ever heard it called by a specific name.

Ive always understood a butterfly to look like

And the backpack being basicly a butterfly with tails/straps to make the backpack

Although I've also been told that it's only a butterfly if it has the straps because the top portion is the head the coils are the body and the straps are the wings. Thus kinda making the butterfly/backpack the same thing .How true that is who knows lol.

Your first photo of the rope coil is often referred as a "New England Coil"

The finishing method is somewhat novel...

Hmmm "New England Coil" seems to favored at the moment.

Yeah I finish is slightly different but I agree it's more or less the same thing.

The coil is a butterfly coil -- the tie-off is a bit different from the usual tie-off, but the coil itself is a butterfly coil.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
