Description

This is the obvious hill as you head south on the A1 from Edinburgh, about 45 minutes from the city, and close to Haddington. There are two slabs on the North side of the formation. This can be very sunny and pleasant, when the weather is good. The rock is generally sound, but is starting to get polished. At the top of the hill, there is an old Roman fort or settlement, and there is an interpretive sign on the far side from the climbing. From the approach trail, the wall to the right is the Overhang Wall, and the one to the left, the Lammer Wall.

Getting There

South on the A1 from Edinburgh, turn off at Haddington and pass through the town. Cross over the River Tyne. After about 2
KM, turn right at a sign for Garvald and Stenton, then make the next left (after about 3KM) Park at the pull out where you can see the climbing and follow the path along the wall. The directions can be tricky. It is also possible to park on the far side of the hill at the interpretive sign and walk around, but it can be a slog through the gorse.
