Was just down on Osceola, MO over the weekend checking out Trapper's Camp. I didn't have any gear or a belayer, so mostly just looked around.

Looks like a few of us will be heading there over Memorial Day weekend. Where's the nearest decent camping area?

Also, we will have a couple of new climbers with us. I'd appreciate recommendations for decent top rope routes to start them out on.

Thanks!

I've yet to visit, but was planning to camp here when I do:

Thanks! I think we are going to stay out near Raven Rocks, but I will tuck this away in case that falls through.

Raven Rocks is another place that's on my list. Do you plan to climb there or just camp there? I've heard the rock quality is pretty poor and not worth messing with, but haven't been able to verify it yet. Michael Richichi

Michael,

I haven't been to Raven Rocks yet, but it seems to be very popular among the Kansas City crowd for the 5.8-5.10 leader, much more popular than any of the equidistant limestone crags.

If you want a review from an out of shape trad climber that cut his teeth on Sioux Quartz, I should be able to provide it after this weekend.

Bolts and sandstone aren't really my thing, but I live in Nebraska... I've learned to appreciate anything that's steeper than about 45 degrees.
