I am almost half way through my recovery from a meniscus repair (4 weeks in). During my last physical therapy session I got on a stationary bike and pushed myself to about 80% of my max heart rate for the first time in a month. Felt good but I nearly passed out and needed way more time to recover than usual.

My question for those who have been through similar surgeries/extended rest periods, how long did it took you to come back to your normal fitness level?

I am planning to do some general mountaineering in WA sometime in July and Im slightly concerned that I wont have enough time to train.

Rock Climbing Photo: Bottom of the bottle
It took me about one year, before I quit worrying if my "bad knee" was going to preform the "Strenuous Hi-step" But it sort of depends on your age, I was 45 when I had my first trip under the knife.

I do know folks who "over-trained" ... for Mountaineering, be careful.

Good luck with yours.

About a year and a half ago I blew out my ACL bouldering and had reconstructive surgery so I know your pain of being sidelined for awhile. I was out for about 4 months, but I did hangboarding workouts 1-2x a week while I was not able to climb. When I finally was able to start TRing and running again about 4 months I had built up considerable strength from the hangboarding, but endurance and pure physical conditioning were lacking. I would say it took me about a month or so to get back into shape. I know its slightly different circumstances since you were not out a long though. Michael Anderson24

Right on, I have been estimating that its going to take me about 8 weeks to get back in shape. I havent been working out since my injury back in july.
