Top Rope Wall Rock Climbing
BETA PHOTO: Pickens Nose - Top Rope Wall
I don't know what the name of this area really is, So I made up Top Rope Wall. There are several anchors here for easy top roping, many of the anchors are currently spinners. Most of the climbs can be lead on gear and are suitable for the beginning trad leader. Access to the bottom of the cliff is via a gully just a little further down the trail from where the anchors are. The three face climbs on the east side of the wall all feature nice horizontals for placing gear. There are other climbs on the southwest side of the wall that are purported to be in the 5.9 range
I haven't been able to find out the names of the climbs, so I just made up some names (admittedly dumb) for the time being. If you have actual route names, FA's, etc, please let me know and I'll update things
A little ways past the trail for Cameron's Wall is a small trail that leads to the left. Take this trail for about 75 ft and you will see the top of the Top Rope Wall on the right.

On the opposite side of the Top Rope Wall is an obvious chimney that goes up into what appears to be a Rhododendron forest. Not to fear there is a trail from the top back to where the gully is.Head up the right angling chimney and get your friction on. The slight amount of moss/lichen growing on the side your feet use makes for some less then positive feeling footwork. Top out and use a couple of Rhodo's as an anchor for your 2nd. The way the top out is doesn't really lend itself for setting up ...[more] Browse More Classics in North Carolina

A nice small area with a couple of fun and interesting easy/moderate climbs. Unfortunately, the anchors at the top are unsightly and of mind-bogglingly poor execution. Its a shame this kind of thing happens in such a nice wilderness setting.
