The tyrolean across Boulder creek at the tonnere tower has really started to sag lately, today a couple guys in our party got stuck out in the middle and ended up drenched to the thighs and had to be hauled back.

Just wandering if anybodies up for tightening the thing. I would like to learn how to do so and am happy to help anybody who wants to fix it.

Hi Ben,

I used the Tonnere tyrolean on Friday and it was still in decent shape then. It was sagging a bit, but I was able to cross with a pack on my back without getting wet at my current out-of-shape weight of 208. A tyrolean will often sag more when the ropes are wet after a recent rain shower.

Were your friends using all three ropes? You will get a lot of sag if you only use two ropes; you need a big enough carabiner to allow you to use all three.

Bruno Hache rigged this tyrolean. He is out of town now; I will let him know and he will take care of it after he gets back on the 29th. You are welcome to come along and help out.

Thanks Ron and they were using all three but I forgot to mention that these guys are 200+.

For big guys like this, it is better if they take off their pack and attach it to the tyrolean behind them. This will spread out the load and result in less sag.

I got stuck with hauling the gear. I think I'll just keep them of the tyro until the creek calms down

thanks, happy climbing

Thanks to Bruno, Ron, and all the folks who setup/maintain the tyros. Just to confirm, we were on the Tonnere tyro on Friday afternoon, and it was indeed sagging.... tough to pull up through the mid-way point.

Anyway, much gratitude to those who maintain the tyros, including the (apparently replaced) one at Sherwood Forest.
