This boulder features the famous Zig Zag Crack. Just east of the Moat Boulder, locate the boulder with the classic, splitter crack on its sheer face. That is the Zig Zag Crack and this is the Zig Zag Boulder.

Quality problems climb both sides of the crack. The descent is down a simple slab to the uphill side of the crack.

Getting There

Follow the trail through the Black Jacks. Before you get to the Moat Boulder, look to your right and you will see an unmistakable 15 foot crack. This is not to be confused with The Black Jack Crack, which is also a splitter, but is about 30 feet tall.

Zig Zag Crack V1 5  New Hampshire : *Rumney : ... : The Zig Zag Boulder
Zig Zag Crack is perhaps the best V1 boulder problem in all on New England if not in all of the country. Yes, that is high praise, but this problem lives up to the hype.Locate the obvious crack on the Zig Zag Boulder and follow the crack using fingerlocks, laybacks, and high steps. The problem is about 15 feet high and would qualify as a highball if not for the perfect landing. A much harder variation (V9) starts as a sit to the right and climbs into the crack. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in New Hampshire
