This route is just right of center on the clean vertical face on the right side of Toaster Wall. It ascends a blocky ledge system down low and then follows edges and seams up the vertical face to the anchors. A defined crux comes between bolts 4 and 5 as you conquer the bulge....[more]   Browse More Classics in Wyoming

Mid-June 2015, this road access to Toaster Rock appears to be officially, though temporarily closed. There's a "Road Closed" sign. We drove a little ways in to camp away from the main road. Long hike. The nasty part of the road is ~halfway (on the map, that would be above the "h" of the red "the" of "...the Toaster Wall." Mud is axle deep for a short uphill section.

This wall is super fun with really cool rock. Road is open to the base of the wall. We used the Laramie Range guidebook and found there to be a few very severe grading discrepancies. The slab section with the easier routes is very fun, however, Al Roker is Dead is no 5.7. In fact, the climb next to it is more sustained and well graded at 5.6. Just up the wall at a nice moderate section you will find Phil's Folly, although it is at least 2 full grades harder than Al Roker is Dead it is also graded at 5.7. Folly may be harder than the adjacent Key Privileges (a fairly graded 5.8). It has some runout sections for a 5.8 leader. All in all the climbing is super fun with great rock, but we found the grades to be close to meaningless. Lippy Dike is rad, don't blow the second clip, which we found to be a tough clip with ground fall potential. Also, this climb is much harder than it looks, you can read 9+ the same way you would at the Voo on old climbs of the same grade.
