BETA PHOTO: Panorama of the entire cliff band

Located to the west of Boston Hollow road, this overhanging cliff band sticks out from the hillside and begs to be climbed. The entire cliff band is about 100 yards long and between 10 and 20 feet tall in most places. Most of the cliff is overhung by about 15 degrees, though there are some places that are a bit easier and close to vertical.

It would be possible to set up a top-rope anywhere on the cliff; just bring plenty of webbing or static line so that you can use the trees above as anchor points.

Getting There

The easiest way to get here is simply to park at the parking area for the Nipmuck Trail, and walk south along the road until you see the obvious cliff band on your right, about 0.25 miles. You might have to cross a small brook right next to the road.

There are some pullouts along Boston Hollow Road that might be closer, but make sure your vehicle isn't sticking out into the road.

Looking at the Central Face, this is the vertical crack on the right side of the cliff. Relatively easy and pretty short, but a good warmup for some of the harder stuff in the area...[more]   Browse More Classics in CT
