Cruising up the 7

RAIN AND WET ROCK The sandstone in Red Rocks is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. MORE INFO >>>

Description

A fine first lead and/or warm up climb on the Panty Wall, on the second bolt line from the right.

Protection

6 bolts, and a two bolt anchor on top. The anchors on this route are a bit far back, and a cordalette is handy for extending them down enough to prevent major rope drag.

This is actually the second-most route from the right. Silk Panties is the right-most route, with the glue-in bolts. The anchors on this route are a bit far back, and a cordalette is handy for extending them down enough to prevent major rope drag.

I recommend this as a good first lead since it is well protected and I was able to do it as my first lead when I was 11. It is also a nice and easy sport climbing route (hence another reason for a good first lead.)

Thanks for the comments and clarifications, I (finally!) updated the route description with them.

First bolt still rotates (bolt itself, not the hanger)

Was on this the other day , the anchor has seen better days. Two what looks like older style metolius hangers each with a pair of quicklinks. The left hanger is spinning and had obviously been like that a while as it has ground a smooth quarter circle into the rock (this hangers second quicklink was open , and I tried to wrench it closed again as best I could with my hand). The right hangers second quicklink is about 1/2 way worn through.
