This selection of boulders on Cedar Mountain is nearest to the road (hence the name) and is the easiest to access. The bouldering here is mostly open/spread out so it is not as well protected as the majority of the Cedar boulders are (uphill). It tends to be a bit windier/sunnier due to the openness, so late evening and early morning are great in the summer. Best in the spring and fall. Awesome spot if you are short on time, as the first of the boulders (Cornflakes and Fishhead) are only a two minute (max) walk from the car. Be sure to hit up Cornflakes if you are in the area; awesome linkups and eliminates on quality sandstone. The large America boulder uphill from Cornflakes has some scary V1 (ish) highballs on the south side. Please wait a few days after rain to climb.

Getting There

Departing West of Cody on the North Fork Highway pass the horse corral and the first turn out until you see the large red-colored wash/cut in the hillside. Between this and the second turn out, is the main region of the highway boulders. You can use the second turn out to turn back to Cody and park on the South shoulder of the road nearest the first of the boulders (Cornflakes and Fishhead) which are very obvious. Alternatively, walk down through Roof Ridge on the trail that links the areas.

SDS in the obvious crack at the bottom northwest corner of the boulder and work up the face (near the corner) on a variety of crimps and slopers. A very obvious and fantastic line with a difficult top out that is seemingly blank and slopey....[more]   Browse More Classics in Wyoming
