Old scan of 'First Class Variation' - circa 2003. ...

This is a right-hand start to Burt's. Start sitting around the arete to the right with your right hand on a small sidepull and your left on the arete. Throw left hand up, and match right hand on the arete (crux). Move left until you can join Burt's for the topout.

This is a cool variation that adds a few more hard moves to a classic problem.

Any thoughts on the grade? I thought it was kind of soft for a 7.

I've climbed the original so many times that it's hard to say - it felt like V4 the other day. It's harder than Burt, and a lot of people consider Burt hard. Soft 7, hard 6, somewhere in there?

That sounds about right.

What was the FA date? Just curious because it went down in '03 and I'm sure before that..

Sorry about the misinformation. Give the date of the FA and who got it and I'm sure Jay will change it for ya.

Changes made. Whenever the FA was, this is the classy way to do Burts.
