The "D" word

In the past year I've noticed the word "douchebag" (or its shortened form "douche") appear quite frequently in many of the various forum topics here on MP. I haven't seen or heard this noun used as frequently (if at all) in other internet forums and or in "real life" situations.
I'll admit it still makes me chuckle when I read it and definitely carries a certain weight with it so I'm not saying I'm tired of the word nor complaining of its popular usage here. I'm just curious if, for those of you that use the term here, the word is a part of your everyday lexicon?

And I'll be preemptive here and call myself a douche for asking the question.

As a leader in higher education once said, think of it as a term of endearment.

Once this girl in a bar endearingly called me a douche; I spun on dime locked eyes and called her a bitch! That worked better than any pick-up line I've ever tried... silly girls

I better have f'd up real bad to deserve being called a douche!

I don't like the word personally.

what a douche! totally kidding buddy. But if im not mistaken, it is a hygienic product. So theoretically its a complement. I think calling someone a dildo is far worse.

I use it, but use the term douche more. I also use the word "douchey" as in "that was a douchey thing to do."

In terms of how profane it is, I think it falls in betweeen jerk and asshole. I'll say it among friends, but try to limit my usage public or at work.

I hear it's popular in High School.

Jason, try to be less of a douche in the future by posting your threads in the appropriate forum :)

Maybe it has something to do with me being from the East, but I've been using and will continue to use Douche, D-bag, Douchebag and whatever other variations there are.

It's always been my go to word over "tool" etc.

Kind of a D-bag question anyways...:0)

Obviously, I'm more of a douchey lurker than poster in these forums. Thanks for moving it to the correct location, Mark. I had no idea there was a "discuss MP" forum.

Douche Bag
A drunk man walks into a bar and orders a drink. While he waits for the bartender to mix his cocktail, he notices a woman alone at the end of the bar. When his drink comes, he says, "Hey b-b-b-artender. Give that douche bag at the end of the bar a drink for me."
The bartender tells the drunk to keep his voice down, but the drunk is belligerent. "Give that douche bag at a drink, dammit!" he shouts.

The bartender becomes angry. "Sir, I will not permit you to sit here and call the lady names."

The drunk persists. "For the last time, bartender, bring me my drink and give that douche bag down there a drink, too!"

Attempting to quell the growing disturbance, the bartender approaches the woman and apologizes for the behavior of the drunk. "The gentleman insists upon buying you a drink, ma'am. What can I get for you?"

The woman replies, "Oh,... I'll have a vinegar and water, please!"

Douche bag

Isn't it just a vessel?

My first year in college, way back when, I called a professor of mine a dildo. Yeah, didn't go over so well.... Still passed the class, but he was a tad more critical of my work. Damn kids.....

Enter "douchebag" in google image search. I laughed...mainly because I'm a douchebag.

We use 'douche nozzle' in my circle.

AGParker · · San Angelo, TX · Joined Oct 2009 · Points: 20

I have always preferred the term "douche nozzle" as well, not that I ever call anybody that. It is much worse to be the end that gets inserted into dirty places than to be the "vessel" for the douche liquid.

Ultimately, it is just a variation on the tendency by which define ourselves in opposition to what we wish we were not--the regular target of said tendency being, in this case, A WOMAN.

IN the often hypermasculine atmosphere of physical pursuits of all kinds, the need to inform our fellow participants that not performing in the expected or normative fashion by calling them terms which have various degrees of synonymous relationship with "being a woman."

We are all not necessarily to blame as this really has historical roots in the founding of our country. Nevertheless, because women make up such a vital and thriving part of the climbing community, it seems that maybe we might want to question this taken for granted assumption that tossing around these terms everywhere is ok. I (and I believe others) think that "climbing" has something special about it that makes it something more than a "sport" in the mainstream sense, maybe we would be well served to try and embody that difference in our actions (which can be words) and create a community that strives to belittle each other in creative and non-exclusionary ways. Its much more entertaining, and like it or not, it really is the mark by which we will define if we are just another "sport," or if we really are the something different that many of us so regularly boast about.

Point taken, but I would have to say that, at least in my experience, I have heard the term 'douchebag' come from the lips of women well over 50% of the time. In fact, I'd say that my women friends use the term far more liberally than my guy friends. Usually in reference to a bad date or lame ex-boyfriend.

I wonder how many people here (guys and gals) still refer to someone "being a bitch" when they are nagging or whatnot? I stopped calling men "bitches" because it really bugged my ex-gf...she had no problem with 'dickhead', which I guess is more mature. ;)

Remember, if it wasn't for douchebags there'd be douche all over the place.

Can you possibly serious?
OK, when people stop using the work 'dick' to insult people, I'll take you seriously. I guess guys that call guys that just don't want to be guys?
And what about 'a-hole?' They are people who just don't want to poop?
Sheesh.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
