The Area

The Cave Area boasts many of Woodson's classics, such as Stairway to Heaven, Bat Flake and the namesake route, The Cave. It is a very popular area of which a large portion of the routes are easily visible/accessible from the road.

Getting There

This area is quite aways up the road, on the forth switchback past the Poison Oak Boulder Area. One will be heading up and south before this area can be seen on the left. The route The Cave is perennially chalked with lots of features.

Rock Climbing Photo: The Bat Flake (5.10d)

Bat Flake 5.10d 6b+ 21 VII+ 21 E3 5b  California : San Diego County : ... : The Cave Area
This route is on a separate boulder to the left of The Cave, and is characterized by a right arching flake. For the most part it is obscured by a large oak tree (ants?). A weird corner start finally gets one into the flake system itself. Deep fist jams and forearm cams are made before an exit move is made prior to the end of the crack with a face move or two to the top. Highly Recommended....[more]   Browse More Classics in California
