Having fun at the Asteroid Boulder, Joshua Tree NP

Description

Just east of the striking Asteroid Crack (5.12d) is this huge boulder with an extensive collection of quality problems from V-easy to V10. Standouts here include the balancy and technical Face Off (V2), as well as the twin seams of Optigrip (V3) and Peabrain (V4). A conveninent and easy walk-off exists on the far left side of the west face just left of the problem Retro (V0).

Getting There

Hike about 500 meters east from the Manx Boulders following a sandy wash, pass the Little Big Horn Boulder and continue on another 500 meters or so further east until you reach the obvious boulder which sits just southeast of the obvious Asteroid Crack.

Nebula V-easy 3  CA : Joshua Tree National Park : ... : The Asteroid Boulder
You'll find this fun problem on the west face of the Asteroid Boulder between Voyager (V2) on the left and Ceres (5.6) on the right at an obvious left-facing flake system. Grab a left-facing flake, high-step onto smears and then lieback the flake up and left until possible to reach high to some creaky flakes and top out. This is a fun problem with good movement for the grade (5.8)....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
