TC Pro oddity: same size, different fit

I just ordered some new TC's in my usual size 43. Normally my break-in process for that size involves wear them around the office for a couple days before I can use them on rock.

However, this pair already fits comfortably, and it's a looser fit than my previous pair of broken-in 43's.

When I hold two corresponding shoes up next to each other, the brand new shoe is visibly longer than the old, maybe a couple centimeters.

The only other difference is that the new shoes have ventilation holes on one side of the toe, and my old pair does not.

Anyone else notice a sizing disparity in new TC Pro's compared to older models? Was there perhaps a redesign?

Everytime a shoe us made, even on the same last, there are differences. This is especially true with climbing shoes (or at least more noticeable). If they are both significantly larger than perhaps there was an error when they marked the size, otherwise it's just a problem with buying shoes without trying them on first. I also think that LA Sportiva has worse quality control on size than other brands but maybe that's just me.

A couple of years ago, I bought a pair La Sportiva Mythos in my usual size. When I got them home and started walking around the house in them, I realized the R shoe was at least a size bigger than the L even though they were both marked 40.5. I returned them to the retailer and received a new pair.

I'll second that. I've had multiple pairs all the same size, just bought a new pair for the Valley and they are noticeably bigger. Definitely not just by a tiny amount either. Still work, but they'll just have to be the comfy shoes now I guess. A bummer for sure, but not much to do about it.

The tolerances on shoes are...somewhat wider than I deal with in my work world, which often is in fiber optics and semiconductors and measured in microns. Or less. When I go to a shop and decide on a shoe, say, size 9 Mythos, I tell them to bring out EVERY pair of size 9. First I try on every left foot until I find the best fit, then I try on every right foot. I get my best pair and they sell a pair of size 9s. Beats the crap out of the old days, when we sized everything a size (or more) smaller to get the best 'performance' fit and whimpered a lot. I seem to perform better, too.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
